Wedding Short Video*

My amazingly talented brother Joe edited this short wedding video for us.

The song, "Smile" by Uncle Kracker, is the song to which I walked down the aisle (because it's the first song that Matt told me made him think of me when he heard it, and when I knew he was falling for me).

It's the most beautiful video I've ever seen :)

Wedding Pics-- preparation*

My uncle Mike was a LIFE SAVER in our wedding setup. I have no idea how we thought we'd get everything done without him! My mom and I conceived this alter idea. We wanted something grand and original and I thought that the organza would soften the look of distant branches behind one's head in the photos and add some soft touch. We had some irritated moments setting this up and trying to communicate our different visions to our setup crews but it ended up so beautiful.
These remembrance flowers were for our deceased, and absent, grandparents. My idea was that during the ceremony, our celebrant would hand four white flowers to Matt for each of his deceased grandparents, and three white flowers (for my deceased grandparents and step-grandfather) and one blue flower for my absent grandmother, and we'd put them in vases on either side of the alter. I envisioned the flowers being a little more independent but when I finally saw them, they looked like bunches on the same strand and seemed like that would be cumbersome for our officiant or us to try to separate, so we ended up just nodding at them behind us. And a few minutes later they blew over in a strong wind. Some people thought maybe it was the grandparents acknowledging that they were present.

Matt LOVES cookies. In fact, the first time he officially said "I love you," we were in his kitchen and I'd just made him some cookies and he said, "I love cookies... and I love you!" So I thought it would be fun and cute to have a cookie tray as our guests arrived for the ceremony. A little pre-wedding sweetness.

This was a people mingle bingo game in which you had to find another wedding guest who met the fact listed (e.g. grew up in Bend, is related to the bride, is in the military). The first one to complete it won a prize. Unfortunately we couldn't find the person we charged to be the gift distributor so when the son of Matt's acquaintance won, I had to speedy quick find him a gift. Well it kept that boy busy at least :)

We ended up feeling a bit rushed, or at least I did. I opted out of having my hair and makeup professionally done (and glad I did!). My new mother-in-law Susan did a beautiful job on my makeup (gold smokey eyes) and my bridesmaid Mandy did an awesome job putting the finishing touches on my hair.

And thanks to my aunt Carolyn some last minute broken jewelry was repaired!

My valentine's day gift from my fiance

We made a necklace and earrings to go with the bracelet.

The Readings from Our Wedding*

Corinthians 13 - read by my Matron of Honor and dear friend Jennifer
(this is one religious reading that came to my mind, which I have always loved, and Jenn asked to read it- perfect)
:

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous;
love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly;
it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,
does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails...But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

"I Love You" by Roy Croft - read by my Bridesmaid and dear friend Jessecca
(this is the reading, of everything I found and read, that spoke most to me, and was the one in a long list that Jesse chose- she knows me)
:

I love you, not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.
I love you, not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me.
I love you, for the part of me that you bring out.
I love you, for putting your hand into my heaped-up heart, and passing over all the foolish, weak things that you can’t help dimly seeing there, and for drawing out, into the light, all the beautiful belongings that no one else had looked quite far enough to find.
I love you, because you are helping me to make of the lumber of my life, not a tavern, but a temple. Out of the works of my every day, not a reproach, but a song.
I love you, because you have done more than any creed could have done to make me good, and more than any fate could have done to make me happy. You have done it without a touch, without a word, without a sign. You have done it by being yourself. Perhaps that is what being a friend means, after all.

"The Art of a Good Marriage" by Wilferd Arlan Peterson - read by Matt's stepmom Pam
(I love this reading too. I love the "forming a circle" and "being the right partner"- I was very happy Pam offered to read this)
:

A good marriage must be created.
In marriage the "little" things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say, ”I love you" at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is having a mutual sense of values, and common objectives.
It is standing together and facing the world.
It is forming a circle that gathers in the whole family.
It is speaking words of appreciation, and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is not only marrying the right person -- it is being the right partner.

Our Vows*

We wrote our own vows to reflect what we wanted:

I... take you...
to love and cherish you,
to comfort and encourage you,
to honor and respect you,
to be patient and kind with you,
to honor our differences,
to forgive,
to give thanks for you every day,
to do my share in making our lives together healthy
and full of love and joy,
in times of happiness and times of sorrow,
in sickness and in health,
in good times and in bad,
for all the days of my life.

Wedding Day 5K*

Since we met running, when we saw there was a 5K on our wedding morning, we decided we had to sign up! Hey Mom did suggest maybe I should take a run that morning to release any stress before the big day started... so why not do it publicly? The race was a 5K as part of the Three Sisters Marathon... Matt originally suggested we should do the full marathon. Ummm no.

AND wearing adorable t-shirts while we're at it...

In fact I had a whole outfit complete with veil (thanks to one of my bachelorette parties), white running skirt, and a garter I made just for Matt out of an old Nike headband (never really used) and some ribbon (in our wedding colors of green and light blue).

I'd emailed the race directors to let them know they were part of our special day. That meant we were mini celebrities, which was sorta fun. The announcer and photographer were on the lookout for us, and since we dressed up, we were hard to miss.

We ran the race nearly stride for stride... ahhh. It was a fairly small race and we were comfortably in 3rd place nearly the whole time.

It wasn't spontaneous... we'd actually discussed several times that we were going to cross the finish line together, holding hands.
Incidentally it's more difficult than it looks.
We finished in 23:36 according to Matt's phone GPS. That's a little faster than 8 min/mile.

Because we were so far ahead of #4, they had us go back and cross with Matt carrying me. I've never seen the pics from the front.

Also funny, when you finish, you tear off a section of your bib that an official takes and places on a stick, to keep track of the order of finishers so they can later type it up. Matt and I were walking up to that person together and the announcer on a loud speaker said "Now Matt, first lesson in marriage, always let her go first." Haha! The official record listed me as #3 in 24:03 and Matt as #4 in 24:04.
Our groomsman Dave and our matron-of-honor Jenn's husband both ran the race as well, so Jenn was at the finish line with her sons to take pictures. Chase and Ryan were our "ring guards" who walked our dachshunds Zoey & Ellie, who were carrying the rings, down the aisle. Here Chase (what a sweetie!) surprised me with a flower.

Matt's my support, literally ;)

Matt was VERY specific about what he wanted the back of his shirt to say: "I'm getting married today at 4:00. June 4, 2011"

The back of my shirt said: "Getting Hitched TODAY June 4, 2011"

Then we stopped by the site to see how setup was going.
