The pages of the calendar have turned to a new year, and I am WAAAAYYY behind blogging. Work has been insanely busy for me this year so far, worse or as bad as ever, worse or as bad as 2007 when I started thinking of a new career (and eventually joined TFA). ALL of my projects had deadlines hitting at the same time, multiple deadlines. I warned my director of this a month plus ago but there's really no one set up to relieve me who isn't already slammed by her projects. It sucks. I virtually never have to work evenings or weekends and found myself working most evenings for at least an hour or so, plus checking my email on my iPhone at all hours. But the rest of our household is doing well.
Our New Years walk around the river...
I'd like to say we did something exciting for New Years but... as you learn when you have a baby... just because it's New Years doesn't mean your kid will wake up any later than the usual 6:30am so there's really no point in staying up. Matt and I accidentally did stay up til midnight but only because the movie we were watching was long. I think we made a nice dinner though.
What a year 2013 was! I'd say it was one of the most challenging but also the most beautiful years of my life. Becoming a parent is quite an adjustment in so many ways. Plus all the hormones. Plus the sleep deprivation (though thankfully Carsen started sleeping - eventually now - 10-11 hours at night). Plus the changes to Matt and my relationship. I'm a little sad to say goodbye to the year my sweet baby was born though. So many sweet, tender memories for me as a new mom.

what a cutie

Carsen is obsessed with electronics. He adores this little wireless
speaker Grandpa Jon bought. He lets Carsen hold it while he plays music
and Carsen totally digs it. I love to watch my dad with Carsen; he is so sweet.
This little speaker also motivated Carsen to try standing unassisted. We got him to clap his hands to the music. So cute! He also started walking more holding onto our hands.

He doesn't have the attention span to enjoy books much yet but we try.
January 18th- we headed for a little quick weekend trip, mainly to
celebrate my Grandma Janet and her sister Sarah's birthday. My Auntie
Ann threw a nice party and Carsen enjoyed being in the spotlight of so
many sweet family members.

They are so cute that it makes me almost want twin girls... almost ;)
My parents and Matt, Carsen and I all stayed in a hotel near the mall by where Matt lived when he and I met. We used to get mochas at this bookstore but it's now a Starbucks and wasn't nearly as good. My parents were sweet and watched the baby monitor while C slumbered in our hotel room next door and Matt & I sneaked out for a short date night.

Turns out even on a Sat night, nothing was open :p
|
But we did find a crepe place..... mmmmm crepes
The other highlight of the trip was a delicious dinner at Matt's fave restaurant, Buster's BBQ. My aunt and uncle, and Matt's friends Spencer and Mary and their children, were sweet enough to drive across Portland to dine with us.

Well the pool was fun too
It's amazing to see how much Carsen learns lately and how much his personality develops. He's a funny kid. He's really good at imitating. And he LOVES to eat, most of the time. He loves spaghetti just like his parents.

he tried my veggie shake and liked it
